    A marketing agency I had explored about three years ago (though never hired) WhatsApped me today.

    Interesting, I thought. Perhaps, after three years, they had found a new idea.

    They sent me a triumphant case study.

    A famous brand. India’s biggest marketplace.
    Many impressive claims.

    There was a Download button.

    And that button led to… one slide.

    To see the remaining slides, I had surrender my email, phone number, family history, zodiac sign, shoe size and maybe halfway through, a kidney.

    I experienced the quiet satisfaction of not having become their client.

    Marketing treated as clever traps may produce a few likes. 

    Enduring businesses usually win by removing friction, not inventing it.

    Marketing is about making decisions easy.

    Not playing dhappa. Especially with people you’re hoping will pay you.

    Simple things work better. Simple is usually difficult to do. 

    Dont mistake simple with easy. Dont mistake difficult with complicated.

  • The Internet Thinks I Need a New Car

    I realized I needed a new car today.

    Curiously, this revelation did not come while driving my old car.

    Nor while looking at other people’s shiny new cars.

    It arrived by Instagram, as divine messages do these days.

    A gentleman, without taking a breath, spent 180 seconds explaining why my life was incomplete without ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and dedicated sunglass space.

    He was particularly concerned that my car lacked sufficient horses for Indian traffic, which moves at roughly the speed of a buffalo on an evening walk.

    Fortunately, all this can be fixed for just…

    For ages, man (and occasionally woman) has contemplated the secret of happiness.

    Thank you, God, for creating social media. It has relieved me of the burden of thinking.

    Apparently, I need a new car.

  • Silence Damages Trust More Than Bad News

    Today, I had to make a phone call that I didn’t want to make.

    “I don’t have any update.”

    It was hard and uncomfortable.

    So why call?

    Because it is usually the right thing to do.

    People don’t expect perfection. They just don’t want to be left in the dark.

    Silence damages trust more than bad news.

    And in my experience, people are more forgiving of bad news than we usually expect.

    That said, please don’t expect that call anytime soon.
